Most Popular Christmas Gifts 2016 | A Christmas Soapbox Rant

Christmas Jewelry

Do a quick Google search on the top selling gifts ever, and you’ll notice something…

The “most popular” gifts of yesteryear are the ones that got thrown out, replaced, and given away. How many of us are still enjoying Beanie Babies and Furbies? How many people are still playing original Gameboys and Xbox 360s?

When the next gadget comes along, we move on.

We forget that brief rush of excitement.

We forget who gave us the gift.

And we want…

THE NEXT. SHINY. OBJECT.

And that’s totally fine. The Christmas rush feels good.

But – if I can rock the boat for minute here – Christmas is also about old fashioned things.

Like love.

And family.

And, no matter what advertising says, there’s really no present you can buy in a store that communicates how much your spouse, kids, and family mean to you.

Maybe the best gift you can give your spouse this Christmas is that looooooonnnggg overdue date night. Maybe it’s been too long since you sat down with your kids and had a heart-to-heart, or just watched a movie together.

When was the last time you kissed your spouse so good you made her blush?

An Amazon Kindle can’t do that.

Reading 50 Shades of Grey doesn’t count. Just sayin’.

So even though it’s not good for business, I’m gonna come right out and say it:

The best gift you can give your spouse and family is your time, attention, and affection.

Period. No matter what the cheesy commercials say. It doesn’t matter how much money you spend if your heart’s not in the right place.

Too many families run their credit cards until they melt, then throw up in fear when they get the bill in January…

"‘Cause that’s what you do at Christmas!"

If I've learned one thing in this life the hard way it’s this: People want you more than they want stuff.

So when you shop this Christmas: Buy a few, well-chosen gifts for the people you love, and pay for them in a way you won’t regret on January 1st.

If jewelry is a part of those few, well-chosen gifts, come see us.

Shower those who matter most in your affection.

We'll even give you a smart way to pay for it.

Sincerely,
