Birthstones are a wonderful tradition that, depending on the source you’re reading, date back to biblical times when the breastplate of Aaron contained 12 precious stones.
“Birthstones” have always been associated with various things ranging from different groups of people, to superstitions, to important life commitments, to symbolizing the month of your birth.
Today, birthstones are exactly what they sound like. They’re a personalized symbol of the month of your birth.
Are you curious which gemstones go with which months? Here is your guide!
Garnet, the birthstone for January, signifies eternal friendship and trust.
Amethyst, the gemstone believed by ancient Greeks and Romans to ward off the intoxicating powers of Bacchus (the god of wine, winemaking, and “ritual madness”), is also said to keep the wearer clear-headed and quick-witted.
Amethyst is the birthstone for February.
